Activity-1 Look at the sentences from the reading and answer the questions.
a. Disappointed by his behaviour, I said all this to my best friend.
b. Approached in this way, your friendship will soon be repaired.
1. Who was disappointed in sentence (a)? What is approached in sentence (b)?
2. Why does the author use -ed instead of -ing here?
Activity-2 Compare them with the following sentences and answer the questions. And look for more sentences with -ed as adverbial in the reading passage.
c. Because I was disappointed by his behaviour, I said all this to my best friend.
d. If it is approached in this way, your friendship will soon be repaired.

Language Points
1. Believing/ Believed that she is Riley’s most important emotion, Joy always tries to take the lead.
[句式分析]本句话主语是Joy,与believe之间的逻辑关系是主动,故用现在分词表达主动关系,因此选择现在分词believing作状语(本句是原因状语)。
[尝试翻译] Joy相信她是Riley最重要的情绪,(因此)总是试图起到领导作用。
2.Worried about her, Joy and Sadness try to work together to ensure she gets her core memories back.
[句式分析] 本句话中状语worried about完整形式是“be worried about”,由于是带有be动词的短语,故作状语时直接去掉be动词即可。
